Andrew Garfield Denies ‘Spider-Man 4’ Casting, But Admits No One Will Believe Him

Andrew Garfield has once again addressed rumours about his involvement in Spider-Man 4 alongside Tom Holland, firmly denying any current plans to reprise his role as the web-slinging hero. In an interview with GQ UK published on Thursday, Garfield candidly acknowledged fans’ skepticism about his denials, referencing his history with Marvel secrecy.

“I’m going to disappoint you. Yeah, no,” Garfield said when asked directly about the rumors. “But I know no one’s going to trust anything I say from now on.” He added that he would only consider returning to a franchise role if it felt meaningful and enjoyable, saying, “If it felt in line with my soul and was going to be fun. Maybe I’m going to have like five kids at some point, and I’m going to need to start saving up for the school tuition or something.”

The actor is no stranger to navigating the secrecy surrounding Marvel projects. Leading up to 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, Garfield repeatedly denied involvement, only to surprise audiences with a show-stopping appearance alongside Tobey Maguire and Tom Holland. The film became a massive success, grossing US$1.9 billion worldwide. Reflecting on the experience, Garfield called it “the most joyful thing ever” and admitted he initially doubted the idea. “When I heard Tobey was leaning in, I thought it was either going to be the greatest thing in the world or the worst thing in the world,” he shared, adding, “I am so grateful because it was the most joyful thing ever. All the pressure was on Tom.”

Garfield originally debuted as Peter Parker in 2012’s The Amazing Spider-Man. However, his stint was cut short after the sequel underperformed in 2014. He described the abrupt end as leaving him “dangling.” Returning for No Way Home offered a sense of closure. “I would 100% come back if it was the right thing,” Garfield previously told Esquire. He expressed interest in a unique and culturally impactful take on the character, one that could deliver something “additive” and “exciting.”

Meanwhile, Tom Holland has fueled anticipation for Spider-Man 4, calling the script “excellent” during a recent appearance on the Rich Roll Podcast. “Zendaya and I read it together, and at times, we were bouncing around the living room,” Holland said, praising the writers for crafting a story worthy of the fans’ respect.

With Spider-Man 4 set to release on 26 July 2026, fans eagerly await the next chapter in the franchise, though it seems Andrew Garfield’s return may not be in the cards — at least for now.
