Michelin Bib Gourmand Singapore Awards 50 Winners In 2018, 12 More Than 2017

While listicles might be a term of the modern era, Michelin has held a stranglehold over a similar offering since 1904 – places you have to eat at when you travel. The idea then was for the tyre company to create a guide for motorists to drive around France in, where they could sample the best French cuisine all around the country. The more motorists drove, the more likely they would need to change their tyres.

Frankly, this was a pretty good setup that birthed the Michelin Guide. Now that we’re in 2018, and the guide is not content with only appealing to the upper echelons of fine dining, and Michelin has come up with the Bib Gourmand award, which recognises eateries with menu items that cost no more than S$45.

Honestly, in a county where you can get a bowl of noodles for $2.50, that’s actually a pretty high limit for good food in Singapore.

Truth be told, there are folks who prefer the Bib Gourmand winners over the Michelin ones. After all, the real concern here is that while Singaporean food is lauded, it’s ultimately awarded to a restaurant that is not Singaporean, much less Asian. With the Bib Gourmand though, chances are higher than the Singapore element is more accurately represented.
