Remedy Entertainment is placing its hopes on its upcoming sequel, Control Resonant, positioning it as a “must-have day-one purchase” following a decrease in the studio’s profit and revenue after the failure of its 2025 multiplayer spin-off, FBC: Firebreak.
As highlighted in the studio’s latest financial report, revenue has been steadily decreasing over the year, which comes as no surprise since the studio’s last massive release was in 2023 with Alan Wake 2. While the survival horror sequel was announced to have passed the 3 million copies sold milestone, it did take almost three years to turn a profit, with its slow uptake contributing to the studio’s dwindling annual numbers.
In addition, the studio’s more recent “experiment”, the short-lived multiplayer spin-off of the Control franchise FBC: Firebreak, recently received its final content update after just one year due to low sales, meaning that there has been a lack of content from the studio to keep players engaged.
Despite these circumstances, Remedy’s new CEO, Jean-Charles Gaudechon, remains hopeful thanks to the imminent launch of Control Resonant, which has seen 1.5 million wishlists across consoles and PC, and ranks among the top three pre-ordered PlayStation titles in the United States, Germany, and Brazil. With this in mind, the studio is now betting big on the sequel, which is set to switch up its predecessor’s formula by not just introducing its playable anti-hero, Dylan Fayden, but also marking Remedy’s first-ever melee-focused action game.

“We position Control Resonant as a must-have day-one purchase while also building Control into a lasting franchise,” Gaudechon said. “In a competitive autumn window, we believe the distinctiveness and quality of the game will make it stand out. Control Resonant will be available across all major platforms from day one and is priced attractively for an AAA title. Combined with the release window becoming slightly less crowded since our original reveal, we remain confident in our positioning.”
The studio has also ramped up the marketing for the upcoming title, with the game receiving numerous trailers like those seen during Sony’s State of Play in June and Summer Game Fest. The report states that marketing will continue to accelerate further leading up to its release, but considering its launch date of 24 September 2026 sits right in the middle of a crowded month for gaming with other major releases like Marvel’s Wolverine (15 September), Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave (17 September), and Silent Hill: Townfall on the same day, it remains to be seen if Control Resonant can come out on top in perhaps the biggest gaming period of the year.
