Remedy Entertainment has officially unveiled Control Resonant, the long-awaited follow-up to 2019’s Control, during The Game Awards 2025.
Instead of picking up where Jesse Faden left off, Control Resonant shifts focus to her younger brother, Dylan Faden, seven years after the events of the original game. The Federal Bureau of Control’s once-sealed headquarters, The Oldest House, is no longer the sole containment zone — paranatural forces have spilled out into the streets of Manhattan, transforming the city into a warped, reality-bending battleground cut off from the outside world.
While Control took place almost entirely within a brutalist interior space, Control Resonant expands outward into a distorted urban environment. Described as “open-ended” rather than fully open-world, the city offers exploration, side content, and multiple factions without relying on traditional open-world design tropes.
Combat has also been entirely reworked. Dylan does not wield the iconic Service Weapon used by Jesse. Instead, players will use a transforming melee weapon known as the Aberrant – a “paranormal weapon for a supernatural street fight.” Remedy is reaffirming its shift to an action-RPG style system, with fast, close-quarters combat, character builds, progression paths, and tactical decision-making playing a central role.

“This is not a safe sequel,” Kasurinen said, noting that the studio is pushing beyond its previous scale in terms of combat, exploration, and player choice. According to creative director Mikael Kasurinen, the game is designed to be approachable for newcomers while still expanding the Remedy Connected Universe (did someone forget about Alan Wake?).
Control Resonant is being self-published by Remedy, with Annapurna Pictures co-financing and co-producing the project. The two companies are also collaborating on film and television adaptations set within Remedy’s shared universe.
Control Resonant is set to launch sometime in 2026 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, and Mac.
