The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is adding another fresh hero to its line-up, with a feature film set around the cosmic hero, Nova, in the works.

As reported by Deadline, Loki and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness writer Michael Waldron is on board to pen the script and potentially direct the film if it moves forward. This isn’t the first time Nova has been planned to appear in the MCU, either, as the character was supposed to be featured in the Guardians of the Galaxy film franchise, alongside receiving his own Disney+ series courtesy of Moon Knight writer Sabir Pirzada, but both plans were unfortunately scrapped.
Nova first appeared in the 1976 issue of Super Adventures and was a member of an intergalactic police organisation known as the Nova Corps. Thanks to a powerful cosmic energy, Nova Force, the hero gains superhuman abilities like enhanced strength, flight and resistance to injury. Two notable humans who have taken on the mantle of Nova include Richard Rider, who would go on to become Nova Prime, the ultimate rank of the Nova Corps, and Sam Alexander, who frequently teams up with the Avengers and the Guardians of the Galaxy in the comics.

As a part of the MCU, it’s unclear how Nova will be introduced into its current timeline, especially since it is about to face the threat of Doctor Doom in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday. As the project is still in its early stages, it’s highly likely to only come out following 2027’s Avengers: Secret Wars, which would possibly alter its timeline and allow for a reset to introduce new heroes. It’s also unclear which iteration of the character will be featured, or if Marvel will go the original route and debut a new hero to take on the mantle of the Human Rocket.
