Following previous reports suggesting that Xbox secured a deal with Rockstar Games for exclusive cloud streaming rights to Grand Theft Auto VI when it launches, Xbox Chief Strategy Officer Matthew Ball has now clarified that the game will not be streaming exclusively or to PC when it releases on 19 November 2026.

The news, which was first reported by The Verge, stated that the studio had received exclusive rights to stream the title via the cloud on launch, giving the impression that GTA 6 will be available to play on PC via cloud streaming services like Xbox Cloud Gaming, despite the title only releasing on consoles.
Now, Ball has clarified via a post on his social media pages that the studio won’t be streaming the game exclusively, nor on PC after all. “While the excitement for GTAVI and XBOX is great to see, it has also led to some misreporting,” he wrote. “We are looking forward to launching GTAVI on XBOX November 19, though the game will not be streaming exclusively or to PC.”
While the wording of his statement is pretty vague, one thing that’s for sure is that players will not have a workaround for playing the game on PC via streaming services, meaning there could still be a streaming-related deal between Xbox and Rockstar Games, but only for Xbox console streaming specifically.

This clarification is definitely a blow for PC gamers, who were initially given hope that they could access the game via streaming instead, only for them to be dashed just a few hours later. Rockstar is already skipping a PC launch for Grand Theft Auto VI, a similar strategy to how they handled the release of its predecessor, so it remains to be seen how long PC gamers will need to wait this time around (there was previously a two-year gap between the console and PC releases of GTA 5) before the title eventually receives a PC port.
