Every villain has an origin story, and DC Studios is making its first foray into something far darker than the usual superhero affair with Clayface, which centres on Matt Hagen’s (Tom Rhys Harries) fall from grace and eventual transformation into the titular shape-shifting supervillain.
Breaking away from the mould of traditional DC films, the upcoming movie is taking the mature route this time around, offering a graphic, body horror take on one of its most recognisable villains. After being brutally disfigured by the mob, rising movie star Matt volunteers as a test subject for an experimental drug, and although he is initially able to completely restore his original face, things start to take a turn for the worse when horrible side effects start to emerge, slowly transforming his body into living clay.
Directed by James Watkins (Speak No Evil) from a screenplay by Mike Flanagan (The Haunting of Hill House) and Hossein Amini (47 Ronin), the film will see Harries star alongside supporting cast members Naomi Ackie, David Dencik, Max Minghella, Eddie Marsan, Nancy Carroll, and Joshua James. The film will also be the third in James Gunn and Peter Safran’s revamped DC Universe (DCU).
