Netflix Sets Course For ‘One Piece’ Season 3, Lego Animated Special, And New Anime First Look

Netflix‘s fleet of One Piece offerings is in full sail. Hot on the heels of the Season 2 finale, the live-action adaptation of Eiichiro Oda’s manga has unveiled the title of its upcoming third instalment, The Battle of Alabasta, with an animated Lego special and an update on the new Wit Studio anime series rounding out a big day for fans.

One Piece Season 3

Set to premiere in 2027, the adventure will follow Luffy and the Straw Hat crew as they venture into the titular desert kingdom of Alabasta, the homeland of Princess Vivi. “A rebellion threatens to tear the nation apart, fueled in secret by one of the Seven Warlords of the Sea, the ruthless Sir Crocodile, and his underground syndicate Baroque Works, who seek to conquer Alabasta for themselves,” reads the logline.

“In a season defined by unbreakable bonds and impossible choices, the Straw Hats must face a brewing civil war and a powerful warlord to save Vivi’s kingdom before it crumbles into the sand. Fans can look forward to formidable new enemies and brand-new worlds where the stakes have never been higher.”

Series co-runners Joe Tracz and Ian Stokes teased an “epic and emotional, spectacular and surprising” journey for the fan-favourite arc, saying, “The Alabasta saga is one of the best-loved stories in all of One Piece — and one of our personal favourite arcs — so it’s a huge honour to bring it to life. Season 3 builds on everything we’ve done before to tell a war story that’s epic and emotional, spectacular and surprising. We can’t wait for fans to join us in Alabasta, where the stakes are high… and the ducks are big.”

One Piece Season 2

Iñaki Godoy, who portrays Monkey D. Luffy, Emily Rudd (Nami), Mackenyu (Zoro), Jacob Romero Gibson (Usopp), Taz Skyler (Sanji), Morgan Davies (Koby), and Jeff Ward (Buggy), Ilia Isorelys Paulino (Alvida) will reprise their roles in the third season, alongside returning Season 2 stars Charithra Chandran (Princess Vivi), Mikaela Hoover (Tony Tony Chopper),  Joe Manganiello (Mr. 0), Lera Abova (Miss All Sunday), and Sendhil Ramamurthy (Alabasta King Nefertari Cobra).

Additional cast members include Xolo Maridueña (Cobra Kai) as Portgas D. Ace, Tony Award winner Cole Escola as Bon Clay, Daisy Head (Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves) as Baroque Works agent Miss Doublefinger, and Awdo Awdo (Upcoming: Subversion) as Mr. 1. Season 3 of One Piece is dropping anchor in 2027.

Riding on the success of the live-action series, the streamer also announced a new animated special titled Lego One Piece, which serves as a two-part retelling of the events from the first two seasons of the pirate saga — told by Usopp to Tony Tony Chopper. It debuts on 29 September and is produced in partnership with the Lego Group, Japanese publisher Shueisha, and animation studio Atomic Cartoon.

The final cherry on top is a sneak peek at Wit Studio’s remake of the anime, first unveiled in December 2023. Fans can catch glimpses of character design sheets and image boards in the 38-second teaser, featuring the five original Straw Hats (Luffy, Zoro, Nami, Usopp, and Sanji) and Shanks, alongside the final message of “Get ready to set sail”. No release date has been set for the project, which is currently in the works at Shueisha, Toei Animation and Fuji Television Network.
