‘Tomb Raider’ Reveal Set For The Game Awards 2025, Fans Speculate A Remake Of 1996 Original

After more than seven years since Lara Croft’s last adventure in 2018’s Shadow of the Tomb Raider, the beloved gaming icon is set to return with a new announcement due at The Game Awards (TGA) 2025, although this next project might not be the title fans are hoping for.

Ahead of the annual TGA showcase on 11 December, the official Tomb Raider social media account uploaded a post teasing an appearance with the caption, “Did you miss her? She missed you. Tune in to [TGA 2025] for a look at the future of one of gaming’s most iconic franchises.”

This announcement was actually made earlier, in Epic Games’ battle royale Fortnite, of all places, and was a part of the game’s TGA-themed island, where players could vote for their favourite fan creations in the battle royale hub.

The post was accompanied by an image showcasing the silhouette of Lara Croft, specifically decked out in an outfit similar to the one she wore in her debut adventure, 1996’s Tomb Raider, complete with her braided hair and, of course, her iconic dual pistols.

By sporting her original outfit, this reveal has fueled fan speculation that the title that will be revealed at TGA 2025 won’t be a follow-up or reboot of the modern Crystal Dynamics Tomb Raider titles, but rather, a remake of the original 1996 game, which although exciting, won’t appeal as much to fans considering the game has already received a revamped version in the form of the 2024 collection Tomb Raider I–III Remastered.

Still, all remains to be seen until the actual reveal at TGA 2025, although most fans are still holding out hope that the title will be Crystal Dynamics’ next mainline Tomb Raider title, which will be made using Unreal Engine 5 and published by Amazon Games. One thing’s for sure, Lara Croft will definitely return, so fingers crossed it’s for a completely new adventure.
