When one killer clown takes centre stage, another wallows in envy.
Following the success of the now-critically-acclaimed Joker, it appears the Jared Leto, who previously donned the makeup of the Clown Prince of Crime, is reported to have received Warner Bros. decision to forgo from the solo film in favour of Joaquin Phoenix rather sourly.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Leto was left “alienated and upset by the move”, at the time when former producer Martin Scorsese was still part of the pre-production process. The Academy Award winner had previously expressed interest in expanding upon his Joker, but it seems that won’t be a possibility anytime soon.
Leto only ever appeared once as Joker, in a bit-part role in the poorly-received Suicide Squad in 2016. It looks as though his Joker persona is now in tatters, especially after the latest trailer for Birds of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) revealed that Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn is no longer attached to Joker.
Like Will Smith’s Deadshot, Leto’s Joker also won’t make a return in James Gunn’s rendition of Suicide Squad, which will see Robbie reprise her role as Harley Quinn. Despite this, he is still in the superhero biz, starring as Morbius the Living Vampire in Sony’s Marvel universe.

Forgive him in advance if he suddenly blurts out terms such as “Mind Flayer” and “Magic Missile”, because never once does he stop thinking about his next Dungeons & Dragons game.
