‘28 Years Later’ Trailer Brings Judgment Day With Hordes Of The Infected

The Rage is far from over — and from the look of things, it’s only just getting started. As the countdown to 28 Years Later draws closer to zero, Danny Boyle and Alex Garland’s long-awaited continuation of their iconic horror saga has unleashed a chilling new trailer.

Twenty-three years after 28 Days Later rewrote the rules of zombie cinema with frenetic pacing and nerve-shredding tension, the world of Rage is back, this time with a vengeance. The trailer wastes no time plunging viewers into the bleakness, opening with a patrol of soldiers swept up in a deadly ambush, followed by imagery of chaos: shirtless, blood-soaked Infected sprinting through grass, a church’s stained-glass windows exploding inward as a horde descends on a doomed priest.

Unlike its predecessors, 28 Years Later teases a broader exploration of humanity’s last strongholds. Set decades after the original outbreak, 28 Years Later relocates the story to Holy Island (also known as Lindisfarne) where a fragile community of survivors clings to normalcy. Among them are Jamie, played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson, his partner Isla (Jodie Comer), and their son Spike (Alfie Williams). Their insulated peace is shattered when Jamie insists that Spike is ready to accompany him to the mainland. It’s a fateful decision.

The structure appears to follow a familiar trajectory: safety, rupture, and descent. Starting in a self-contained haven, the story fans out across a scarred landscape as new characters and fractured ideologies enter the fray. Survival tactics clash. Communities splinter. Trust becomes a currency too costly to afford.

Though little is officially confirmed beyond the cast and setting, this film marks the beginning of a new trilogy. Boyle directs, Garland returns to write, and 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, a sequel helmed by Candyman and The Marvels director Nia DaCosta, is already slated for release in January 2026. With 28 Years Later set to arrive on 20 June 2025, fans of the original films won’t have to wait long to re-enter this nightmare.
