The latest trailer for the upcoming Fantastic Four: First Steps is establishing a solid future foundation for the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), with reveals of the full suite of superpowers by Marvel’s first family, as well as the first look at Shalla-Bal, a female version of the Silver Surfer from the comic books.
In between establishing the 1960s aesthetics and tone of the film, starring Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards aka Mister Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm aka Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm aka Human Torch, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm aka The Thing, the trailer also reveals that Sue is pregnant with the couple’s first child.
It also showcases Reed’s stretching powers, which was noticeably absent from previous first looks footage and teaser trailer, and shows the team in action.

This trailer also marks the first official look at Julia Garner’s Silver Surfer aka Shalla-Bal, providing a very comic book-accurate look of the chrome clad character, including her distinct hair that differentiates her from the more well-known male version of the character, Silver Surfer aka Norrin Radd. This film, which marks the third incarnation of a live-action adaptation of the popular comic book series, will have the Fantastic Four defending the planet from Galactus, a gigantic cosmic being who consumes planets.
In the comics, the couple have two children and the elder Franklin Richards is a powerful mutant more powerful than the Omega level mutants, and is expected to play a role in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday film that will reunite this cast with the wider characters of the MCU, including Robert Downey Jr, who will play longtime Fantastic Four nemesis, Victor von Doom aka Dr Doom.
Fantastic Four: First Steps opens in cinemas on 25 July 2025.
