‘28 Years Later’ Lands Star-Studded Cast With Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, & Ralph Fiennes

Sony Pictures is ramping up production on the highly anticipated 28 Years Later, enlisting an all-star cast that includes Ralph Fiennes, Jodie Comer, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson, as reported on Deadline. The film marks the continuation of the post-apocalyptic franchise by director Danny Boyle and writer Alex Garland, following the successes of 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later.

Despite the details of the plot being kept under wraps, the casting of Fiennes, Comer, and Taylor-Johnson represents a notable shift towards utilising well-established actors, contrasting with the earlier films’ strategy of casting relatively unknown actors at the time.

Ralph Fiennes, known for his roles in The Grand Budapest Hotel, The Menu, and as Lord Voldemort in the Harry Potter series, brings a versatile acting prowess to the project. Aaron Taylor-Johnson, recognised for his roles in Kick-Ass, The Fall Guy, and Bullet Train, is also rumoured to be in consideration for the role of James Bond. Jodie Comer has gained significant acclaim for her role in Killing Eve and has appeared in films like The Last Duel and Free Guy.

The trio is currently signed on for the first film of what is planned as a new trilogy for the 28 Years Later series. With the second movie already greenlit, Nia DaCosta (The Marvels) is reportedly the top choice to direct it, with plans to shoot the first two films back-to-back.

28 Years Later

The production team for 28 Years Later includes Boyle and Garland in their traditional roles of director and writer, respectively. They are also set to produce the film alongside Andrew Macdonald, Peter Rice, and Bernie Bellew. Cillian Murphy, star of the original 28 Days Later, is involved as an executive producer, though it remains unclear whether he will return in an acting capacity.

As the project moves forward, fans are eager for more details, including the storyline and potential release date, none of which Sony has officially announced yet. This new chapter aims to expand on the dark and thrilling universe Boyle and Garland have previously crafted, setting the stage for a fresh narrative arc in the beloved zombie saga.
