No release date was unveiled, with additional information such as staff, episode count, or voice cast kept under wraps. It’s also unclear whether Studio Pierrot, which worked on the original adaptation of Mizuho Kusanagi’s manga, will return to the helm. Directed by Kazuhiro Yoneda (Tiger & Bunny), the 24-episode series ended its run in March 2015 and inspired three original anime DVDs over the next two years.

The story is set in an East Asian-inspired fantasy world, focusing on Princess Yona as she flees a coup in the fictional kingdom of Kouka and embarks on a journey to save Kouka from both invasion and internal collapse. The full synopsis is as follows:

“Currently, Hiryuu Palace has no one else next in line for the throne other than the 15-year-old princess, Yona, who has been raised with care. Finally, the night of her sixteenth birthday arrives. She expects it to be a wonderful day spent with her peace-loving father, Il, her servant and friend Hak, and her cousin Soo-won, whom she had feelings for… However… That night, Yona goes to visit her father to tell him how she really feels, because he opposes her getting married to Soo-won. However, when she gets to her room, she encounters a shocking truth.”

On the same day as the news, Yona of the Dawn also ended its 16-year run in Hakusensha’s shojo manga magazine Hana to Yume. It currently has 46 volumes, with the final and 47th one shipping with an extra chapter and a supplementary fan book next February.
