Xbox Games Showcase 2024 Roundup: ‘Fallout 76’ Update, ‘Metal Gear Solid 3’ Remake, & More

The Summer Game Fest is in full swing and Xbox Games Showcase 2024 revealed plenty of exciting game trailers and updates, with fans anticipating some big announcements after Activision Blizzard and Microsoft merged in 2023. Here’s everything announced at the showcase, including upcoming releases and game expansions.

Mecha BREAK

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl

Life is Strange: Double Exposure

Life is Strange protagonist Max Caulfield can’t seem to catch a break, and in its sequel, Life is Strange: Double Exposure, which releases on 29 October, she loses yet another friend and gets caught up in a murder mystery. When Max attempts to rewind time, she instead discovers a parallel universe where her friend is alive. She’ll have to stop the same killer across both timelines and return to the action once again.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows

The highly-anticipated samurai-themed Assassin’s Creed Shadows is taking things up a notch, releasing a first-look trailer with stunning backdrops, combat, and unique mechanics. A 13-minute gameplay sneak peek will also be unveiled at Ubisoft Forward, which promises even more surprises.

Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024

Microsoft’s most ambitious Flight Simulator instalment yet takes to the skies in Flight Simulator 2024, which uses the latest simulation and design technology, letting players simulate commercial flights, charter services, search-and-rescue operations, and more. The game will release in November 2024, with new planes and game modes to explore.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6

Set in the Gulf War era, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is the latest mainline game in the franchise, showing off a gameplay trailer which sees the round-based zombies return, and 12 new 6v6 maps in an all-new campaign. Fans are hoping for a longer campaign this time, and we’ll have to wait until the open beta to see if it lives up to the hype. The game will be available on Xbox Game Pass when it launches.

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle

While there’s still no confirmed release date for Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, the curtain has been pulled back just a little more on the game, which debuted its reveal trailer, and we know it’s set for somewhere this year. The game’s cutscenes retain the authentic feel of the movies, while introducing a new plot that sees Indiana Jones and investigative reporter Gina team up to solve a new mystery.

Avowed

Avowed, another highly-anticipated game, also dropped a story trailer, showing off its stunningly rendered environments, characters, and mechanics. As an envoy of Aedyr, you are sent to investigate rumours of a spreading plague with a secret that threatens to destroy everything. Can you save the island and your soul from the forces threatening to tear them apart?

Dragon Age: The Veilguard

Rally the Veilguard and defy the gods in Dragon Age: The Veilguard, an immersive single player RPG expected to arrive in fall 2024. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

Sandfall Games’ first title, fantasy RPG Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 , has gamers cautiously optimistic. Lead the Expedition on a desperate adventure to destroy the Paintress before she erases the last survivors of humanity, and encounter fearsome foes and allies along the way. The game is set to arrive in 2025, with no current confirmed release date.

South of Midnight

Now that we know what Compulsion Games’ new title, South of Midnight is, it doesn’t disappoint. A third-person action-adventure game set in the aftermath of a hurricane, protagonist Hazel is pulled into a Southern Gothic world where reality and fantasy are interwoven, and ancient creatures from folklore emerge.

DOOM: The Dark Ages

A new narrative-focused game arriving in 2025, Fable showed off more of its character designs and monsters at the Xbox Games Showcase 2024, which have players wondering if they’ll be able to customize their own player character. There’s something nostalgic and charming about Mixtape, a game with a coming-of-age story revolving around four friends heading to a party on their last night of high school when a perfectly curated playlist draws them into dreamlike reenactments of their formative memories. Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater

If the name sounds familiar, that’s because Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is a remake of 2004’s Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. Twenty years later, the remake boasts a modern control style, all new graphics and 3D audio that enhance the jungle atmosphere. There’s no release date for the game, but it’s already one highly-anticipated by fans.

Gears of War: E-Day

Gears of War: E-Day brings the gory carnage of the series up a notch in a first trailer that takes players through the brutal horror of Emergence Day through the eyes of Marcus Fenix. Fourteen years before Gears of War, war heroes Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago return home to face a new nightmare: the Locust Horde. These subterranean monsters, grotesque and relentless, erupt from below, laying siege on humanity itself. ​

Game Expansions & Updates

Fallout 76: Skyline Valley

Fallout 76’s Appalachia map is finally getting an expansion southwards on 12 June, as dwellers explore the new Skyline Valley area. As its name suggests, there’s something strange going on with the sky, with a surging electric storm hanging over the valley. Uncover the mystery of Vault 63, with its own secrets to hide, and for the first time ever, play as a Ghoul, which players have long been awaiting. The Ghoul update will be available in early 2025, but the expansion itself will be fully playable on its June launch date.

Diablo IV: Vessel of Hatred

Diablo IV teased an exciting new expansion, Vessel of Hatred, which takes players into the new region of Nahantu in search of Neyrelle, who is both suffering the fate of her choice to imprison the Prime Evil Mephisto and seeking a means to destroy him. A new Spiritborn class was also revealed in the expansion, which allows players to recruit Mercenaries to aid them in combat and fight together in a new PvE co-op activity.

Starfield: Shattered Space

Starfield is getting its first story expansion, and it’s an exciting blend of horror and sci-fi. The expansion also comes with new spacesuits, weapons, and gear, and will arrive somewhere in 2024.
