Wonder Woman 1984 is lassoing in quite a bit of noise this New Year. The film has roped in US$15.6 million over the New Year’s holiday and has brought its global total to US$118 million.
Despite only making a modest amount for a film with a US$200 million budget, Wonder Woman 1984 still tops the box office and is the highest performing blockbuster release during pandemic times. The movie also became 2020’s top streaming release following its release on HBO Max.
The sequel, which is currently suffering some social media backlash for not rising to the level of its beloved predecessor, beats out The Croods: A New Age, Monster Hunter and Tenet.
Hollywood has taken a big hit when Coronavirus struck. Now, with more movies ushering in 2021, we can only hope and look forward to a time when moviegoing returns as a popular pastime.
