Geek Culture, the region’s leading online entertainment, tech and gaming media, unleashed a night of Marvel mayhem at its exclusive Shaw Lido IMAX fan screening of Deadpool & Wolverine by bringing Singapore’s most passionate Marvel enthusiasts together at this invitation-only event.
But this wasn’t any average fan screening that offered an unforgettable early glimpse into the highly-anticipated superhero team-up as fans, clutching their special Geek Culture Invitation Cards, streamed into the venue, their anticipation palpable. The event kicked off at 7:30pm, but many arrived early to partake in the pre-show activities which promised not only fun but also fabulous prizes.
The pre-show segment set a festive tone, with contests and giveaways that had attendees buzzing with excitement. Exclusive Deadpool & Wolverine premiums were up for grabs, from limited edition necklaces, coins, enamel pins, socks, sweaters, caps, to the coveted ‘Best Bubs’ heart pillows and awesome T-shirts from Goldwood.sg. The energy was infectious as attendees, decked out in creative costumes inspired by the pairing of one of Marvel’s most iconic duos, eagerly awaited the film’s commencement.
As the lights dimmed and the IMAX screen flickered to life, the excitement turned into a collective thrill. Deadpool & Wolverine did not disappoint, delivering a whirlwind of action, humour, and surprisingly heartfelt moments. Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman’s chemistry sizzled on screen, their witty banter and chaotic energy echoing the excitement in the theater. The IMAX format amplified the film’s visual spectacle, immersing the audience in the bloody battles and jaw-dropping cameos.
The post-screening buzz was equally memorable to fans as they clutched their exclusive swag and discussed their favourite cameos and moments, and speculated on the film’s impact on the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Overall, the exclusive Deadpool & Wolverine IMAX screening at Shaw Lido was a resounding success as it created lasting memories and a shared sense of community among Singapore’s Marvel fanbase.
“Heroic team ups are frequent in comics but there’s something quite unique about pairing the irreverent Deadpool with the iconic Wolverine, and we knew that such a cinematic milestone deserved the biggest fan screening we would muster,” noted Yonk, co-founder of Geek Culture.
“We’re immensely thankful that the amazing team at Disney came to us, in the same manner that Marvel fans across Singapore responded enthusiastically to our event, such that Disney decided that we were the only ones that could work with them to also give away the only signed movie poster by Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman and Shawn Levy in Singapore. In many ways, we’re the cheeky partner to Disney’s might because they always reply positively when we tell them, Let’s f**king go!”
As attendees left Shaw Lido, the consensus was clear: Geek Culture had delivered an extraordinary experience, worthy of the epic collaboration on screen.
