4 Years On, NieR: Automata’s Final Secret Turned Out To Be An Awesome Cheat Code

Warning: Spoilers Ahead!

After almost 4 years, a new cheat code has been found in NieR Automata. The game’s developer teased this ‘final secret’ a few years ago when the game was first released in 2017.

NieR Automata is a game with over a dozen different endings and lots of secrets. The only way to truly beat the game is to replay it multiple times, achieving different endings and new stories along the way.

Discovered by data miner Lance McDonald, the cheat code allows the player to skip right to the ending after beating the first boss fight. McDonald didn’t fully explain what will happen but his video showed him beating the first boss, heading to some barrels and then inputting the code.

According to McDonald, he took “hundreds of hours” of reverse-engineering the game’s code and engine to find this final secret. NieR Automata‘s game director Yoko Taro seemingly confirmed the secret on Twitter not long later.

NieR: Automata was a hit when it released, surprising both critics and series fans with its widespread popularity and complex narrative tricks. To date, it has sold over five million copies.
