WhatsApp Now Supports Multi-Device, So Users Can Have One Account Across Four Phones

The WhatsApp update you’ve been waiting for is here — multi-device support. While you might’ve previously found it tedious to sign out each time you switched phones, this new feature is designed with convenience in mind, and will launch sometime in the coming weeks.

Some of the more unique WhatsApp features in recent years include the ‘Message Yourself’ function, avatars, community channels, and even 32-person video calls for large gatherings, but none are as big of a game-changer as multi-device support.

For starters, users will now be able to sign in to their accounts simultaneously across phones or tablets with a SIM card function, much like how WhatsApp Web works. One-time password support will also be introduced, compared to the current QR code scanning method of signing in.

Small businesses, meanwhile, can have multiple employee profiles under their company’s WhatsApp business account, which makes it easier to respond to customer enquiries directly from your phone. There’s no need to worry about security while at it, too, since the app will automatically log out of accounts after a long period of inactivity on your main device.

The update has been long time coming, especially with the likes of Slack, Telegram, and other messaging apps already offering multi-phone support. Still, it’s better late than never, so WhatsApp users can expect more convenience and optimisation as the app continues to enhance its features.
