The Lisan al Gaib will only return to the screens in 2024, as Dune: Part 2 has been delayed.
Warner Bros. today announced that the anticipated sequel is being pushed back several months from 3 November 2023 to 15 March 2024. The delay happens as the Hollywood writers’ and actors’ strikes continue. The ongoing strikes also mean that lead stars Timothee Chalamet and Zendaya won’t be able to promote the release of the movie.
The delay of Dune: Part 2 has caused a domino effect in Warner Bros.’ release calendar. Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire will now move from 15 March to 12 April 2024 and The Lord of the Rings: The War of Rohirrim will move from 12 April to 13 December 2024.
Warner Bros. isn’t the only studio facing delays. Sony recently pulled its biggest title, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse from the calendar entirely, and is delaying Kraven the Hunter and the Ghostbusters sequel to 2024 too. Disney also reshuffled its upcoming Marvel, Star Wars and Avatar films.
Other movies that were set to begin or continue filming in 2023 will also presumably see delayed release dates, including Gladiator 2, Beetlejuice 2, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two and more.
In order for promotions to resume and for movies to finally hit the screens, the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers must agree to a fair contract with SAG-AFTRA. As of right now, the strikes have been going on for 115 days.
