‘Jujutsu Kaisen’ Season 2 Unleashes New Shibuya Incident Arc Trailer

After a brief hiatus, Jujutsu Kaisen fans received a treat with the unveiling of the much-anticipated trailer for the Shibuya Incident arc. Just a few hours ago, Toho Animation premiered the trailer on their YouTube channel, setting the stage for its debut on 31 August 2023.

The first half of Jujutsu Kaisen‘s second season, which aired from July, delved into the Hidden Inventory and Premature Death arcs, shedding light on Satoru Gojo and Suguru Geto’s past. However, as the season resumes, viewers are poised to enter the series’ more sombre phase with the Shibuya Incident arc, which promises to be a game-changer for many beloved characters.

The new trailer, running at 1 minute and 25 seconds, set the stage with Suguru Geto announcing Shibuya as the battleground on 31 October, before transitioning to protagonist Yuji Itadori. Key battles were teased, notably between Kokichi Muta and Mahito, likely spanning the initial two episodes.

Rapid-fire visuals showcased an ensemble of characters – Nobara Kugisaki, Panda, Maki Zen’in, Toge Inumaki, Mei Mei, Kiyotaka Ijichi, Atsuya Kusakabe, Nanami Kento, Megumi Fushiguro, and Satoru Gojo.

The main highlights in the video include Yuji’s confrontation with Choso, Jogo’s Shibuya mayhem, Hanami and Jogo’s clash with Gojo, and Kasumi Miwa wielding the Simple Domain. The trailer then hits a crescendo with Megumi and Yuji battling Jiro Awasaka, capped off by a tantalising glimpse of Sukuna’s Flame technique against Jogo.

Adding to the ambiance is the arc’s new opening song, “SPECIALZ” by King Gnu, the artist behind Jujutsu Kaisen 0‘s theme songs. From the glimpse we received, the tune promises to resonate with fans.

Given the Shibuya Incident is the manga’s second-longest arc, covering 59 chapters, fans have speculated on the extent of its adaptation in the upcoming 18 episodes. Given past trends, expectations lean towards the series covering up to chapters 120 or 125. This stretch would indeed encompass significant events, including the unmasking of a traitor among the teachers.

Undoubtedly, the Shibuya Incident arc’s unveiling has set the fandom abuzz, with many on social media anticipating the twists and turns the storyline will take. The arc, which follows directly from the anime’s first season, has been one of the most awaited segments by manga enthusiasts. 

Jujutsu Kaisen‘s second season is a two-part affair, which already aired its first half covering the Hidden Inventory and Premature Death arcs. After two compilation episodes and a one-week break, the anime is set to plunge fans into the darkness and thrills of the Shibuya Incident starting 31 August 2023.
