The sequel to Avalanche Software’s 2023 Harry Potter RPG, Hogwarts Legacy, is now in active development at Warner Bros Games.
This comes from the latest earnings report from Warner Bros, which states that the studio is expanding its pipeline of games, which includes “the second instalment of Hogwarts Legacy“. As the upcoming title is the only upcoming title specifically mentioned in the segment, it’s clear the sequel is a major focus for the studio moving forward.
This report follows previous comments made by Warner Bros Discovery CEO David Zaslav during an earnings call in late 2024, where he disclosed the decision to significantly reduce the number of video games released in the future and instead prioritise only four titles, the Hogwarts Legacy franchise being one of them.
Released in 2023, the original Hogwarts Legacy marked the first fully-fledged Harry Potter-based RPG that placed players in the shoes of a student at the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, splitting their time between attending extracurricular activities and battling foes using an in-depth spellcasting combat system. With an intricately designed school and its surrounding areas ripe for exploration, this leaves room for the sequel to further expand the universe with more wizarding adventures.
While the next Hogwarts Legacy game might still be quite some time away, the Harry Potter brand is getting a new lease on life at Warner Bros thanks to its upcoming HBO TV series reboot, which stars Domic McLaughlin, Alastair Stout and Arabella Stanton as Harry, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger, respectively. The show is already moving forward with its second season before its premiere on 25 December 2026, with Nicholas Hoult (Superman) recently joining its cast as the villainous Gilderoy Lockhart.
