‘Transformers: One’ Animated Film Taps Chris Hemsworth and Scarlet Johansson As Young Optimus Prime and Elita-1

The role of Optimus Prime is one of the most iconic in pop culture. The fan-favorite voice of Optimus Prime, as portrayed by Peter Cullen, is deep, commanding, and authoritative. It has a rich, resonant quality that conveys a sense of power and strength, while also exuding a sense of compassion and wisdom.

It’s big shoes to fill and it seems that the producers for Transformers: One, a prequel film set for 2024, which focuses on exploring the origins of Optimus Prime and Megatron, feel that Chris Hemsworth would be suitable for the role of young Optimus.

But that’s not all, as the rest of the cast is equally star-studded. Brian Tyree Henry will opposite Hemsworth as Megatron and Scarlett Johansson will join in as Elita. Rounding up the cast would be Keegan-Michael Key as Bumblebee, Jon Hamm as Sentinel Prime, and Laurence Fishburne as Alpha Trion.

Announcing the cast at CinemaCon, Ramsey Naito, president of Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon Animation, said: “I’m so excited and proud to be working with Hasbro and eOne to bring the first animated ‘Transformers’ movie to theaters for a never-before-told story.”

While Transformers: One might be the first animated movie on the big screen in a long while, the story behind the origins of Optimus and Megatron has been explored to varying degrees of success. While it might all be for the sake of character development, some of these portrayals have generated some ire from the fans.

In the meantime, as the animated movie is in active development, much of the spotlight now is shared with the reveal of Unicron in the upcoming Transformers: Rise of the Beasts movie.
