One shall stand, one shall fall… and over 300 lucky fans in Singapore were able to take part in an unforgettable night of all things Transformers!
Shaw Theatres, in partnership with Fathom Entertainment, is bringing the 1986 animated classic The Transformers: The Movie back for fans, now in glorious 4K, as part of Hasbro’s tongue-in-cheek “The Apology Tour”, a year-long promotional campaign seeking “forgiveness” from fans for traumatising a generation of children by killing off Optimus Prime 40 years ago.
Held in partnership with Shaw Theatres in Singapore, over 300 fans were able to relive the legendary G1 movie on the big screen once more during Geek Culture’s one-night-only celebration premiere on 17 September at Shaw Lido. Of course, with a celebration so iconic, this wasn’t just a movie night, as excitement was already at an all-time high long before the doors opened, thanks to the appearance of local Transformers artists like @chewcharsiew and @kansaaieitj, alongside cosplayers galore.
In addition, each member of the audience was also given the chance to try their luck in a Sure-Win Lucky Dip, with a massive prize pool including Transformers figures from Hasbro Singapore, Blokees, Yolopark, Killerbody, MegCorp and The Falcon’s Hangar.
Once in the halls, the excitement grew even further thanks to the pre-show in-hall activities, where lucky fans walked away with amazing Transformers prizes such as a Hasbro Studio Series Titan Class Age of Extinction Grimlock, a Yolopark AMK Pro G1 Starscream Transparent Version, and a Flame Toys Kuro Kara Kuri White Ultra Magnus. But at the end of the day, everyone was still a winner, as they were able to not just catch a 4K version of the greatest Transformers movie ever made, but also a special 12-minute animated short at the end, titled Optimus Prime: Awakening, which marks the late Peter Cullen’s final performance as the Autobot leader and a truly fitting tribute.
Originally released in 1986, The Transformers: The Movie follows the heroic Autobots as they try to save Cybertron from the giant world-eating villain, Unicron. After a fatal battle with the Decepticons, the Autobots must unlock the secrets of the Matrix of Leadership to defeat both the Decepticons and Unicron. The film stars the late Cullen as Optimus Prime, Frank Welker as Megatron and Soundwave, Judd Nelson as Hot Rod, and the late Leonard Nimoy, Orson Welles, and Robert Stack as Galvatron, Unicron, and Ultra Magnus, respectively.
