Published by Bandai Namco, The Blood of Dawnwalker is described as the first chapter in a “brand new role-playing saga” set in a fantasy world of vampires and dark magic. The game will be a single-player open-world action RPG, very much following the studio’s expertise in the Witcher titles.

Having a “strong focus on story and narrative”, players will take on the role of Coen, a man who turns into a “Dawnwalker”, which seems to be a unique variant of vampires that can traverse the world during both day and night. The trailer shows off a gruesome, blood-soaked battle between vampires and human soldiers, teasing the various blood-based powers that players might be able to make use of during combat.

While the game’s official gameplay reveal was teased for summer 2025, the trailer does end with a brief snippet of alpha in-engine footage, offering a first look at its third-person combat and world, aptly giving off The Witcher vibes with a hint of 2018’s Vampyr thrown into the mix. Most notably, the footage shows Coen freely traversing in broad daylight, so it remains to be seen how his newfound vampiric powers and associated weaknesses come into play. The trailer’s description does mention a “ticking clock”, alluding to players needing to manage their time in the sunlight, or even take regular suppressive measures to prevent their condition from overwhelming them, similar to the Zombrex system in 2010’s Dead Rising 2.

With the project first confirmed at the start of 2024, Tomaszkiewicz has suggested that it will not be as expansive as the mainline Witcher games, instead being similar in size to its expansion, Blood and Wine. This doesn’t mean that the game will be small in scale by any means, with the CEO claiming that it would feature a “greater” amount of quests.

The Rebel Wolves team also consist of former CD Projekt writer Jakub Szamałek, design director Daniel Sadowski, art director Bartłomiej Gaweł, CFO Michał Boryka, and studio head Robert Murzynowski, all having experience working on games like The Witcher, Cyberpunk 2077 and Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales.

The Blood of Dawnwalker currently does not have a release date, but a more in-depth gameplay reveal is expected to be released in Summer 2025.
