Fatal Fury’s Mai Shiranui Brings The Heat To ‘Street Fighter 6’

Marking the second guest character to ever grace Capcom’s Street Fighter series, Mai Shiranui of Fatal Fury fame will join the fight in Street Fighter 6 on 5 February 2025.

Originally appearing in SNK’s 1992 fighting game Fatal Fury 2, Mai was originally conceived as a male character under the name “Ninja Master”, but was revised to her final design after a request to include a female fighter in the roster. Following overwhelmingly positive fan reception, the brawler has returned for almost every entry in both the Fatal Fury and King of Fighters franchises since, becoming one of gaming’s most iconic female characters.

Well-known for her ninja skills and aerial combat, Mai’s Street Fighter 6 move set should feel familiar to fans of her prior games, albeit with some new tricks at her disposal. In combat, she balances using both her Kachousen — fans that she throws like a fireball — for ranged damage and acrobatic close-range manoeuvres like her Hissatsu Shinobi Bachi cartwheel attack and the Musasabi no Mai aerial dive tackle to overwhelm foes with a flurry of blows.

Mai will unsurprisingly don her iconic red uwagi outfit that fans love, a design that has remained consistent with minimal changes since her appearance in The King of Fighters ’94. In addition, her alternate outfit will be inspired by her new look in the upcoming Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves, set for release this April, sporting a more modern biker-esque jacket and leggings.
