‘The Walking Dead’ Star Steven Yeun To Make MCU Debut As Sentry

The cat is now out of the bag. Following earlier news of Steven Yeun‘s casting in Marvel’s Thunderbolts, Invincible creator Robert Kirkman has spilled the beans on who the Walking Dead star will be playing.

“My good friend Steven Yeun is playing the Sentry in a movie,” he said on an livestream with comic book artist David Finch. “He called me, he went in for a costume fitting. I’m hope I’m not – I don’t think this is a spoiler or anything that will get anybody in trouble. I don’t know, maybe, we’ll see. I don’t care, I don’t work for Marvel, what are they going to do to me?”

The actor voices Mark Grayson in the animated Invincible show, which is adapted from Kirkman’s comic of the same name, illustrated by artists Cory Walker and Ryan Ottley.

“He said, ‘I just came back for a costume fitting for the Sentry,'” added Kirkman, after seemingly realising he might have revealed a little too much. “I guess I only do superheroes that are yellow and blue.”

Sentry (aka Robert Reynolds) first appeared in the Marvel comics in The Sentry #1 back in 2000. Introduced as a character with incredibly powerful abilities, he later learns of his dark alter-ego named the Void, who previously removed all memory of the Sentry from the entire world (similar to the events in Spider-Man: No Way Home) — including his own — to ensure his two halves remain separate forever.

Steven Yeun MCU Debut Sentry

Thunderbolts will mark Yeun’s debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The upcoming Phase 5 movie is due out on 25 July 2025, and stars Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova, Sebastian Stan’s Winter Soldier, David Harbour’s Red Guardian, Wyatt Russell’s US Agent, Olga Kurylenko’s Taskmaster, and Hannah John-Kamen’s Ghost. Harrison Ford is also joining the cast as Thaddeus Ross, alongside Ayo Edebiri, of The Bear fame, in an undisclosed role.
