‘The Shining’s’ Infamous Overlook Hotel Catches Fire

Fancy a weekend at The Overlook? In this case, it’ll end like The Shining‘s infamous hotel was originally supposed to. The Timberline Lodge, which made an appearance in Stanley Kubrick’s iconic film recently caught fire last weekend.

Fortunately for the Timberline Lodge, the “3-alarm commercial fire” was confined to the roof and attic, and quickly put out by the Clackamas Fire District. While The Overlook in Kubrick’s film remains relatively untouched, the events of Stephen King’s novel see the lodge go up in flames after the boiler explodes. A new adaptation of the novel is in development at HBO.

Funnily enough, the Timberline Lodge’s official website assures guests that it is not in fact, haunted, and went as far as to request Kubrick to change the novel’s original haunted room 217 to a fictional number, 237 to avoid superstition. But novel fans who get the reference still intentionally request to stay in the original room, hoping to have a paranormal experience of their own.

The lodge’s doors are still open despite the fire, and as of now, are still taking bookings, so why not take a trip to Oregon and experience The Shining for yourself?
