As the outfit behind 2022’s Scream and its sequel, Radio Silence Productions knows a thing or two about reviving old franchises. Next on its resurrection list is an upcoming new entry in The Mummy franchise, now dated for a 19 May 2028 release, marking a reunion between the production house and Project X Entertainment after their collaborative stint on the recent Scream movies.

Also returning to The Mummy 4, which has yet to receive an official title, are original stars Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz, who will reprise their roles as adventurer Rick O’Connell and Egyptologist Evelyn O’Connell, respectively. Plot details are being kept under wraps, but Weisz’ homecoming is an especially big deal for fans — while Fraser came back for the third film, 2008’s The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, her absence was filled by Maria Bello (ER).
Ready or Not helmers Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett serve as directors on the project, with David Coggeshall (Orphan: First Kill) penning the screenplay. In addition to starring in the movie, Fraser will also be executive producing alongside Jason F. Brown and Denis Stewart from Hivemind.
Based on a loose remake of the 1932 film of the same name that was released as part of the Universal Monsters franchise, The Mummy follows Rick O’Connell as he teams up with Evelyn Carnahan and travels to Hamunaptra, the City of the Dead, accidentally awakening Imhotep, a cursed high priest with supernatural powers, in the process. The Stephen Sommers-directed feature would later spawn two sequels and a prequel titled The Scorpion King, which itself expanded into five movies.
In 2017, Universal Pictures took a stab at a reboot headlined by Tom Cruise, but its abysmal box-office performance brought an end to the studio’s intent to kick off its Dark Universe interconnected monster franchise. Warner Bros.’ New Line Cinema is also gearing up for its own take on the adventure this April, with Evil Dead Rise director Lee Cronin at the helm.
The Mummy 4 will reawaken in theatres on 19 May 2028.
