‘Monster Hunter Wilds’ Receiving Massive ‘Iceborne’ Size Expansion From Capcom

Capcom’s 2025 beast-slaying RPG sequel Monster Hunter Wilds is due for some substantial updates in the coming months, with the game set to receive its biggest content drop yet, with the studio describing the expansion as similar to that of 2019’s Monster Hunter World: Iceborne.

To celebrate the game’s first anniversary, the studio released a special video with series producer Ryozo Tsujimoto outlining the future of Monster Hunter Wilds. A majority of the video was dedicated to the title’s upcoming update on 18 February, which will see the addition of event quests like Arch-Tempered Arkveld, 10-star Arc-Tempered monsters, alongside a crossover with the upcoming turn-based RPG spin-off, Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection.

In addition to the update, the game is also celebrating its anniversary with a special event that makes almost all previously released event quests permanently available, with those who log into the game during the event period receiving a free item pack too. Past seasonal events will also return to the game, albeit via a weekly rotation.

As the cherry on top, Tsujimoto dropped the bombshell announcement right at the end of the video, saying that to mark the end of major content updates for Monster Hunter Wilds, the team is “at work on a large-scale expansion similar to Monster Hunter World: Iceborne and Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak for Monster Hunter: Wilds“, which more information to be shared this summer.

While Tsujimoto stressed that this major update is set to be the game’s last, he did announce that the game will be receiving smaller updates leading up to it, focused on further improving the title’s notorious performance issues. When it launched back in February 2025, the game was plagued with all manner of performance and visual issues, particularly on the PC. While the title has received a fair share of updates, trying to address these issues over the years, many are still not satisfied with its state even til now, netting Monster Hunter Wilds a “Mixed” rating on Steam, with many still citing performance issues.

At least we know that Capcom is actively aware of the game’s issues and is continuing to support Monster Hunter Wilds with not just performance patches, but is still adding a myriad of content for returning players at the same time. Monster Hunter World: Iceborne is often considered an expansion that improved the base game in almost every aspect, so let’s see if this upcoming expansion can do the same for Monster Hunter Wilds too.
