First Look For ‘The Exorcist: Believer’ Teases More Scares And Brand New Trilogy

A first-look trailer for the upcoming Exorcist reboot has been released, and we now have an official title – The Exorcist: Believer. The film is planned to release on October 13, just in time for the Halloween season, and stars Leslie Odom Jr. (One Night In Miami, Knives Out) and Ann Dowd (Hereditary, Compliance), as well as Ellen Burstyn (The Exorcist), who reprises her role as Chris MacNeil.

But that’s not all that was revealed at Universal’s panel at CinemaCon, as the Exorcist franchise is headed for a film trilogy. The first-look trailer has plenty of moments that pay homage to the original movie and teases more scares, with two girls getting possessed this time.

After two girls vanish into the woods and return not quite the same three days later, supernatural events start to occur, as the trailer heads into full-on horror territory with seizures and white dresses covered in blood. This time, it’s former protagonist Chris MacNeil who’s called to deal with the situation before it escalates.

Halloween reboot director David Gordon Green is also behind the reboot and promises that The Exorcist: Believer will be “an extraordinarily different film from Halloween“, but still in the subgenre of horror. “It will extend and update the [1976] original,” says producer Jason Blum, “like Green did with Halloween.”

The film’s release date is coincidentally, on Friday, October 13, 2023, perhaps to keep in line with the Friday the Thirteenth superstition, adding an extra reason to be afraid if you’re watching it on release day. We’re excited to see what The Exorcist: Believer has in store this Halloween and beyond, but we’re certain it’s going to be a chillingly terrifying time.
