Batman has enjoyed various live-action iterations over the years, but the same can hardly be said of his trusty sidekick, Robin. The upcoming Brave and the Bold film – based on Grant Morrison’s comic series of the same name – will ride on high expectations as it gears up for the latter’s first live-action appearance since 1997’s Batman and Robin, and Christina Hodson is up for the challenge.

The screenwriter is penning the script for the project, which imagines a Bat family with Bruce Wayne’s biological son serving as Robin. While it’s unclear how far along things are in the writing stage, The Hollywood Reporter cites the onboarding of Hodson since last spring from one source, with another claiming that it would take some time for a definitive draft, as DC Studios is taking “a measured approach to its development”.
Since The Brave and the Bold is still in early development, no other details are known about it. The superhero feature will also mark a reunion between Hodson and director Andy Muschietti, following their stints on The Flash, led by Ezra Miller, and 2020’s Birds of Prey, starring Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, under the previous studio’s banner. Studio heads James Gunn and Peter Safran serve as producers.

Despite the common link of Batman, it will exist separately from Matt Reeves’ The Batman universe. The sequel is set to go into production this spring for a 2027 release, so there’s no rush to work on the Robin adventure just yet – besides, DC Studios wants to ensure that its tone stays distinctive enough to stand on its own, regardless of when it comes out. In the meantime, Muschietti will be busy developing the second season of HBO’s It: Welcome to Derry series, even if it hasn’t been officially renewed.
