‘Star Wars Rebels’ Co-Creator Simon Kinberg To Helm Skywalker-Less Star Wars Trilogy

The Star Wars franchise is gearing up for a new era, and fans are once again bracing for a wave of developments that may feel reminiscent of the early 2010s. Rumours have been swirling about multiple Star Wars movies in the works, and now, years later, the galaxy far, far away is preparing for another cinematic expansion.

Simon Kinberg

Recently, at the Star Wars Celebration, multiple new movies were confirmed. But that’s not all — Lucasfilm is also reportedly developing a brand-new Star Wars trilogy, with Simon Kinberg at the helm. Kinberg, the co-creator of the animated series Star Wars Rebels, is set to write and produce this new trilogy. His past writing and producing credits include Deadpool, X-Men: Days of Future Past, and The 355 (yes, we’re ignoring his work on Dark Phoenix).

Although details about the new trilogy remain scarce, conflicting reports suggest two possibilities. Some Deadline insiders claim this new trilogy will continue the Skywalker saga, covering Episodes 10-12, while others like IGN have exclusive intel that it will launch an entirely new Skywalker-less storyline separate from the main saga. Still, it’s clear that Lucasfilm is ready to bring more Star Wars to the big screen.

Star Wars

The possibility of a new episodic trilogy adds to an already crowded Star Wars slate. With numerous spin-offs and standalone films in the works, including projects from James Mangold, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, Taika Waititi and Donald Glover, this new trilogy would mark a bold step forward. After a successful era of Star Wars television, driven by The Mandalorian, fans are eager for a return to the cinema.

Lucasfilm has yet to confirm these details, but the reports are promising. A new Star Wars trilogy by Simon Kinberg could reinvigorate the franchise, allowing it to explore new narratives while honouring its rich legacy. Fans can look forward to a fresh and potentially Skywalker-less chapter in the saga, one that continues to push the boundaries of what Star Wars can be. With the stage set for new stories and adventures, the Force is once again strong.
