The upcoming addition to the Space Jam franchise, Space Jam 2: A New Legacy dropped its first official trailer and fans are quick to see its resemblance to widely known films such as Tron and Ready Player One.
The sequel to Space Jam showcases characters from assorted Warner Bros.’ properties, which gives a similar feel to the world of Ready Player One. If you hadn’t looked closely enough, Pennywise, Iron Giant, King Kong and Scooby-Doo were just some of the iconic and recognisable characters who graced the screen with their presence.
Starring LeBron James, the upcoming film boasts a Tron-like plot where the protagonist and his son are both taken by a rogue supercomputer and are forced to play basketball against the A.I’s all-star Goon Squad for their freedom.
James is assigned to the “rejects team” consisting of the Looney Tunes squad – Bugs Bunny, Tweety Bird, Lola Bunny, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, Yosemite Sam, Tasmanian Devil, Wile E. Coyote, Road Runner, Foghorn Leghorn, Sylvester the Cat, Gossamer, Granny, Speedy Gonzales, Marvin the Martian, Penelope Pussycat, Elmer Fudd.
Zendaya was recently announced to voice Lola Bunny along with Eric Bauza as Daffy Duck, Tweety Bird and Marvin the Martian, Jeff Bergman as Bugs Bunny, Sylvester the Cat and Foghorn Leghorn and Gabriel Iglesias as Speedy Gonzales
Premiering 16 July 2021, The Space Jam 2: A New Legacy trailer is already looking like a stark difference from the original Space Jam that was released in 1996. One thing is for sure though, fans may still look forward to the nostalgia that the franchise brings.
