Variety recently announced Ming-Na Wen’s involvement in the film, though her exact role remains under wraps. This news follows the announcement of Ben Wang (American Born Chinese) taking on the role of the new karate kid, with Sadie Stanley (Kim Possible, Cruel Summer) as his romantic lead. Joshua Jackson (Dawson’s Creek) joins the cast as Stanley’s character’s father, rounding out a dynamic lineup.

Ming-Na Wen, celebrated for her significant contributions to Disney projects like Mulan, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and The Book of Boba Fett, brings a wealth of experience to the Karate Kid universe. Her action-packed resume hints at the possibility of her portraying a martial artist in the new film.

The film, directed by Jonathan Entwistle with a script by Rob Lieber, explores the journey of a Chinese fighter-in-training under the guidance of martial arts masters. While the plot hints at Macchio and Chan’s characters teaming up as mentors, official details are yet to confirm this exciting possibility.

Set to premiere on 13 December 2024, the new Karate Kid movie not only extends the beloved franchise but also opens the door for future sequels, depending on its success. This development comes as Cobra Kai, the Netflix sequel series, concludes with its sixth season in 2024, potentially setting the stage for the franchise’s continued legacy.
