The 2010s renaissance is upon us. With The Hunger Games‘ prequel movie having premiered in cinemas in 2023 and Percy Jackson‘s rebooted TV series on Disney+, Twilight joins the fray as Lionsgate Television announces an animated series is in the works.
Lionsgate vice chairman Michael Burns revealed the news at a Morgan Stanley conference, promising that “We’re going to go out with the ‘Twilight ’ series, an animated series, I think there’ll be a lot of interest in that.” The news sparked discussions on X/Twitter, with some fans confused on the target audience of the series, which will delve into more mature topics, given its source material. The animated reboot will be based on author Stephanie Meyer’s books, and is in early development.
In an era of remakes, it’s hard to say whether the Twilight animated series will deliver an adaptation that surpasses the films, which grossed over US$3 billion globally, but the jury’s out until the series moves further along in development.
