Saber Interactive’s ‘Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic’ Remake Still Alive Despite Radio Silence

Despite its long and reportedly troubled development, Saber Interactive’s Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake will still see the light of day, according to the studio’s latest comments.

Following last week’s news regarding the development of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 3, studio chief creative officer Tim Willits reassured fans via a social media post that the other games in its lineup remain unaffected. “Saber Interactive is one of the largest independent developers in the world. We are working on numerous games across many different genres,” he wrote, “Everything that we have talked about is still in development. We will share information on upcoming games when we have something cool to share.”

Saber Interactive took over development duties for the title in 2022, following news that the game was “in serious trouble” and was “delayed indefinitely” at its original development studio, Aspyr. After Saber Interactive split with parent company Embracer Group last year, studio head Matthew Karch came forward to assure fans that “the game is alive and well”, although no new information has been revealed about the elusive title since its original announcement in 2021.

Saber’s latest comments certainly bode well for the future of the troubled title, although fans should stow their expectations until something more concrete, such as screenshots or a trailer, is revealed. After all, the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake isn’t the only game the studio has in its lineup, sitting alongside other big-name projects in the works like Jurassic Park: Survival, Turok: Origins, John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando and the recently announced AAA Avatar: The Last Airbender RPG.

With most of the other projects in Saber’s lineup already receiving substantial reveals in the form of gameplay and cinematic trailers, it’s safe to say that despite the studio’s claims that the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake is still in active development, it might still be a long wait before the game ever comes to fruition. Fans will just have to trust not only in the force, but in Saber too, to finally give the classic RPG game the remake treatment it deserves.
