As reported by Capcom via an official press release, this latest milestone comes less than two weeks after it was announced to have sold five million copies within five days of launch. Additionally, this achievement was also described as “the fastest that a title in the series has reached this milestone.”

While no specific data was provided to compare Resident Evil Requiem’s performance to other recent franchise titles, its two previous mainline entries, Resident Evil 7 and Village have each amassed around 16 and 13 million copies since 2017 and 2021, respectively, as outlined by Capcom’s Q3 report. With this in mind, Requiem’s current sales figures are certainly impressive considering it’s almost to the halfway point of Village’s sales, and it hasn’t even been out for a full month yet.

Capcom also outlined plans to implement “ongoing support” for the game, including “additional game content”. likely referring to the recently announced story expansion, photo mode, and new “mini-game” being added down the line. In addition, the press release also states that the Resident Evil series will be celebrating its 30th anniversary on 22 March 2026, and that Capcom has plans to mark this occasion such as “a collaboration between Universal Studios Japan and Resident Evil Requiem in 2026, and orchestral concerts in Japan, the US, and Europe.”

Resident Evil Requiem’s success shouldn’t come as a surprise, considering it celebrates the legacy of fan-favourite hero Leon Kennedy while also providing the best of both worlds with its gameplay that combines Leon’s action-focused segments with series newcomer Grace Ashcroft’s scarier, survival horror-focused ones. In fact, the latter has proven to be more intense than expected for some, including Resident Evil 2 director Hideki Kamiya, who admitted that even he is too losing sleep from playing the game, and suggested Capcom make a “non-scary mode” that replaces blood splatters with cherry blossom petals and makes the music more upbeat, which does sound equal parts humorous and intriging.
