‘Resident Evil Requiem’ Expansion Terrifies More With Story DLC & New In-Game Content

Survival horror fans dying for more Leon adventures after finishing Resident Evil Requiem are in for a treat, as Capcom has a host of additional content planned for the game, including a photo mode, a new “mini game”, and most importantly, a story expansion.

This announcement came from game director Koshi Nakanishi, who appeared in a video message on the game’s social media pages, thanking fans for their continued support, as well as the game’s current success so far, selling over five million copies within five days of release.

“[We are] planning to add more add-on content,” Nakanishi said in the video. “First, the much-awaited photo mode. On top of that, there’s another surprise coming around May. We’re planning to add a mini-game. We hope to continue providing support on Resident Evil Requiem to live up to its positive reception.”

If that wasn’t enough news to get fans excited for the mysterious “mini-game”, which, following franchise tradition, might very well be the game’s version of “Mercenaries Mode”, a staple arcade mode where players take on zombies as different game characters to chase a high score, Nakanishi went on to close the video with a kicker, that Resident Evil Requiem is set to recieve a story expansion.

“Oh… one more thing,” Nakanishi added, as he jokingly sorted through a bunch of nonsensical add-on ideas, including what looks to be a Leon Kennedy romance game, a Candy Crush-styled game, or even one where Leon and Grace are turned into cats. “We are planning to make extra story content!”

“We will delve deeper into the world of Requiem,” he continued. “We’re hard at work on it now. It will take some time, so we ask for your patience and hope you’ll look forward to it. Thank you again for all your support!”

While no further details were provided for the upcoming expansion, it will hopefully follow in the footsteps of past titles, introducing familiar faces as playable characters in sub-stories. 2017’s Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, for example, introduced series staple Chris Redfield on a mission to hunt down one of its antagonists, Lucas Baker, while 2023’s Resident Evil 4 remake added the Separate Ways expansion that told its story from the perspective of fan-favourite femme fatale Ada Wong.

Resident Evil Requiem

For Resident Evil Requiem, fan theories are already rampant following its finale, which, SPOILERS AHEAD, saw the arrival of the Hound Wolf Squad seen in 2021’s Resident Evil Village, minus their leader, Chris, so he might very well appear in the DLC. More interestingly, however, was the reveal of Leon’s wedding ring, spawning theories on who the lucky lady was – Ada or Claire Redfield?

Hopefully, the upcoming story DLC will answer these questions when it launches sometime in the future. One thing’s for sure, though, considering how painfully short the main game is, a hefty story expansion is sorely needed.
