Prime Video’s ‘Tomb Raider’ Series Uncovers First Look At Sophie Turner As Lara Croft

A household name within the gaming scene and crowned the best-selling video game heroine by Guinness World Records, Lara Croft’s legacy knows no bounds, having made her way over to the big screen twice. Prime Video’s upcoming Tomb Raider series is set to represent the adventurer’s first foray into live-action television, and things are now in full swing.

Amazon MGM Studios has announced that production is underway on the project, with a first-look image of Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner marking the kick-off. In it, she dons an outfit that seems to be a mix of the classic and 2008’s Tomb Raider: Underworld designs, complete with her signature dual pistols in hand.

The 29-year-old is joined by an ensemble cast that includes Sigourney Weaver, of Alien fame, and Jason Isaacs (Harry Potter), who will portray original character Evelyn Wallis and Lara’s uncle, Atlas DeMornay, respectively. Two other canon roles have also been cast, taking the form of Bill Paterson (Lord Lyman Beesbury in House of the Dragon) as Winston, the longtime butler of the Croft family, and Martin Bobb-Semple (One of Us Is Lying) as Zip, Lara’s right-hand tech support and close friend.

Additionally, fans can expect a host of new faces that are exclusive to the series, such as Gerry (Jack Bannon, Pennyworth), Lara’s personal pilot and snack collector, Lara’s fierce, deeply competitive adversary called Sasha (Sasha Luss, Anna), Lukas (August Wittgenstein, The Crown) an illegal raider who shares history with Lara in more ways than one, and more.

The Tomb Raider series has been in the works since 2023, with Prime Video placing a series order in May 2024. Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag) serves as creator, writer, executive producer, and co-showrunner, alongside Chad Hodge as co-showrunner and executive producer. Joining Amazon MGM Studios on the producing front are Story Kitchen and Crystal Dynamics, which also developed the Tomb Raider game franchise.

Story details remain sparse, but the show is expected to “reinvent the franchise on a massive scale” through an interconnected universe that ties into the video games. A release date has yet to be announced.
