We’ll be seeing more of Lara Croft soon, with Amazon giving Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s (Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny) Tomb Raider adaptation the green light. The news comes as Amazon unveils an exciting series of announcements, including confirming the live-action Spider-Man Noir series.
Waller-Bridge has been working on the series for an extended period of time, and previously teased something “dangerous and exciting” in the works, and has been a longtime fan of the franchise. Amazon intends to continue expanding the Tomb Raider universe, with a larger film and game franchise planned, and Waller-Bridge’s Tomb Raider will kick it off with a bang.
“What if I could take the reins on an action franchise, with everything I’ve learned, with a character I adore, and also just bring back some of that ’90s vibe?” Waller-Bridge previously said, adding that “it’s such a wonderful feeling to think you know what to do” with such a project.
“If I could tell my teenage self this was happening I think she’d explode. Tomb Raider has been a huge part of my life and I feel incredibly privileged to be bringing it to television with such passionate collaborators. Lara Croft means a lot to me, as she does to many, and I can’t wait to go on this adventure. Bats ‘n all.”
