Disneyland California Brings Original ‘Star Wars’ Trilogy Characters To Galaxy’s Edge

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland in California is ushering in a new era, literally, as the park is bringing the characters and scenes from the original Star Wars trilogy to the land.

Originally launched in 2019, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is currently set in the timeline of the franchise’s The Force Awakens era, something that drew criticism from fans. Now the galaxy far, far away is about to get a lot more crowded, as OG characters like Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Princess Leia Organa will soon make an appearance on park grounds.

In addition, John Williams’ iconic scores from the film franchise will also play throughout the land, with visitors to Olga’s Cantina also being treated to the unmistakable lively tune, “Cantina Band”. The park’s new additions will also co-exist with familiar faces like Rey, R2-D2, Chewbacca and The Mandalorian.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Disney said that the plan is to have the official timeline in Batuu’s Black Spire Outpost “roll back in time several decades” in order to bring in the characters, which comes as quite a pivot to the overall theme of the land, which is currently set in the universe of the Star Wars sequels. It does make sense, however, as the sequels never had the same cultural draw as George Lucas’ original trilogy, so bringing back the OG characters will no doubt serve to draw many more visitors.

While the park will see new faces, its current rides like Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run and Fire of the Rising Moons will remain unchanged, although there will be minor tweaks to certain shops and restaurants, such as the aforementioned Cantina.

The changes to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland in California will go into effect starting from 29 April 2026, while Galaxy’s Edge in Walt Disney World Florida will remain unchanged for now.
