PlayStation Will Not Be At E3 2020

It is 2020, and PlayStation and Sony are skipping E3 for a second year running. With the absence of one of the major players in the industry from last year’s show, it certainly created a void that was hard to ignore, that will continue in 2020.

In a statement to GamesIndustry.biz, the company stated that the annual gaming convention is not in line with the company’s vision for the year, and PlayStation will instead “attend ‘hundreds’ of consumer events to showcase upcoming games for PS4 and PS5.”

“After thorough evaluation SIE has decided not to participate in E3 2020,” a Sony Interactive Entertainment spokesperson said. “We have great respect for the ESA as an organization, but we do not feel the vision of E3 2020 is the right venue for what we are focused on this year.

We will build upon our global events strategy in 2020 by participating in hundreds of consumer events across the globe. Our focus is on making sure fans feel part of the PlayStation family and have access to play their favorite content.

We have a fantastic line up of titles coming to PlayStation 4, and with the upcoming launch of PlayStation 5, we are truly looking forward to a year of celebration with our fans.”

PlayStation has had a long history with E3, attending the show since its inception in 1995 annually until 2019. The changing nature of E3 has also resulted in conflicting views about how the show should evolve to fit new generations of gamers.

Whatever it will be, E3 2020 will have to do so without one of the industry’s biggest players.
