Something’s coming… and this time it’ll be to the chaotic battlefields of Fortnite.
If you’ve been playing Fortnite religiously, you’d probably have noticed several organic, pulsating portals that have been appearing across the various game maps. These portals are none other than the ones that lead you straight into the Upside Down in the critically-acclaimed Netflix Original series Stranger Things.
Their latest update of Season 9 brought about a slew of patches and new content to keep players on their feet, but Epic Games stealthily included several Easter Eggs such as these portals that left many of us both bewildered and excited at the same time.
Not to mention the addition of the Scoops Ahoy ice-cream parlour from the recently-released Season 3 of the show in the game’s Mega Mall map. Something Steve Harrington would definitely be proud to be a part of.
This is in line with the release of their third season, and also with Netflix’s own pledge to stick their hand deeper into the honey pot of gaming back in E3. What exactly these portals do in Fortnite remains to be seen, but we can certainly expect something to pop out of those and start terrorising us in game.
And as the cherry on the icing, it looks as though Fortnite might be Netflix’s golden ticket into gaming with teasers of a Fortnite X Stranger Things collab due out on July 4. 2019… which just so happens to be today, at the time of writing.
Marion has a serious RPG addiction. Sometimes it bleeds into real life; he forgets to sleep because he thinks he has a Witcher’s body clock. Forgive him in advance if he suddenly blurts out terms such as “Mind Flayer” and “Magic Missile”, because never once does he stop thinking about his next Dungeons & Dragons game.
