Netflix’s ‘The Sandman’ Season 2 Has Been Written, Says Neil Gaiman

Netflix brought the Dreaming to life with its The Sandman series, and it won’t be long before Morpheus and his family return to the small screen once again. According to creator Neil Gaiman, the second season has been written, with filming seemingly on track to begin soon.

“Scripts are written. We are casting the first episode we will be shooting. Sets are being designed,” said the renowned writer on Tumblr, in response to a fan’s question about the status of the second chapter. This comes after actor Mason Alexander Park, who plays Desire in the live-action adaptation, confirmed that cameras will start rolling this summer.

While details about the highly-anticipated sequel are scarce, Gaiman has revealed that it’ll explore more stories of the Endless. “It gives me unbelievable pleasure to say that, working with Netflix and Warner Bros., Allan Heinberg, David Goyer and I will be bringing even more of The Sandman stories to life,” he said.

“There are some astonishing stories waiting for Morpheus and the rest of them (not to mention more members of the Endless Family to meet). Nobody is going to be happier about this than the Sandman cast and crew: they are the biggest Sandman fans there are. And now it’s time to get back to work. There’s a family meal ahead, after all. And Lucifer is waiting for Morpheus to return to Hell…”

The first season of The Sandman was widely praised by both critics and fans alike for honouring its comic book roots. Consisting of 10 episodes, it follows Morpheus (Tom Sturridge), the personification of Dream and one of the seven Endless, as he seeks to restore order to his realm, the Dreaming, after escaping from 106 years in captivity.

Other cast members include Kyo Ra/Vanesu Samunyai as Rose Walker, Vivienne Acheampong as Lucienne, Boyd Holbrook as the Corinthian, Patton Oswalt as Matthew the Raven, Jenna Coleman as Johanna Constantine, Gwendoline Christie as Lucifer Morningstar, David Thewlis as John Dee, Kirby Howell-Baptiste as Death, and Park as Desire.

No release date has been set for Season 2 of The Sandman, which is expected to introduce Delirium and a showdown between Dream and Desire — the ultimate Dream come true for fans.
