Netflix’s ‘Devil May Cry’ Animated Series Hits Jackpot With Stylish Opening & Apr 2025 Release

The time is almost nigh for Netflix’s Devil May Cry animated series to fill out dark souls with light. Following a first full-length look at the upcoming adaptation, the streamer has lifted the curtain on its opening credits, drenching Capcom’s iconic white-haired devil hunter Dante in visually arresting and SSStylish flair.

Set to the catchy rhythm of Limp Bizkit’s “Rollin'”, it teases an action-packed jaunt from Legend of Korra helmer Studio Mir, alongside a confirmed 3 April 2025 release. Adi Shankar, best known for his work on Warren Ellis’ Castlevania series, is pulling double duty as producer and writer on the project, which will run for eight episodes.

While plot details remain on the hush-hush, it seems the highly-anticipated outing is set to star Dante around the time of the first three installments, as opposed to the latest entry in the franchise, Devil May Cry 5. The show was first announced during Netflix’s Drop 01 event in 2023, with Johnny Yong Bosch, the voice actor of Nero in the games, stepping into the lead role.

“Sinister forces are at play at the portal between the human and demon realms. In the middle of it all is Dante, an orphaned demon hunter for hire, unaware that the fate of both worlds hangs around his neck,” reads Tudum’s description of the story.

Created by Hideki Kamiya, the action-adventure franchise follows Dante as he battles powerful demons and other evil forces with his supernatural abilities. The first title debuted in 2001 and introduced players to the dysfunctional relationship between him and his brother-slash-archrival Vergil. Nero took over the reins as the protagonist in the fourth and fifth outings, bringing a new and different play style into the mix.

For fans of Shankar’s productions, there are more projects to look forward to. The filmmaker is currently working to adapt Assassin’s CreedPUBG and Hyper Light Drifter for the small screen, alongside a remake of the Korean thriller I Saw the Devil.

Devil May Cry slashes onto Netflix on 3 April.
