Netflix has unveiled its full slate of 2025 releases, with The Old Guard 2, Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, and Frankenstein standing out among the most highly anticipated films.
The streaming giant has already kicked off the year with Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl, a contender for Best Animated Feature at the Academy Awards, and Back in Action, an action-comedy starring Jamie Foxx and Cameron Diaz, which has dominated the Global Top 10 for two consecutive weeks. With a packed schedule for the rest of the year, Netflix aims to balance crowd-pleasers with high-profile projects that could be strong contenders for awards season.
During the ‘Next on Netflix’ event, the company confirmed a range of movie release dates from renowned filmmakers, such as Noah Baumbach’s (Marriage Story) Jay Kelly, an untitled Kathryn Bigelow (Point Break) project, and RIP, a thriller starring Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, all set for a fall release.
The first half of the year leans heavily into action and genre films, with Tom Hardy’s Havoc arriving in spring and Wedding Crashers‘ Vince Vaughn leading the comedy Nonnas on 9 May. As the year progresses, the slate shifts toward more thriller-driven content, including Keira Knightley’s The Woman in Cabin 10 and the holiday-themed A Merry Little Ex-Mas, both set for fall.
Meanwhile, the second half of Netflix’s 2025 appears to be stacked with prestige projects, with Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery and Frankenstein generating early awards buzz. Guillermo del Toro, a three-time Oscar winner, is expected to bring his signature style to his adaptation of Frankenstein starring Oscar Isaac, while Rian Johnson, who previously received nominations for writing the first two Knives Out films, returns to his successful whodunit franchise.
