Hobbits, Elves, Wizards and more! Get ready to return to Middle Earth as a new Lord of the Rings(LOTR) game is in development. Warner Bros. recently announced their partnership with NetEase to create a new mobile game for the iconic LOTR franchise. Titled The Lord of the Rings: Rise to War, the game will feature prominent characters and locations from the series.
The epic fantasy adventure will be set during the Third Age of Middle-earth. Fans can look forward to re-immersing themselves into the rich mythical universe of J.R.R. Tolkien’s literary works, as The Lord of the Rings: Rise to War will be a mobile strategy game. The developers have promised to give a faithful rendition of the stunning visuals of Arda.
We have high hopes for the game as NetEase has had a portfolio of successful games such as Identity V and Onmyoji. Stepping into the LOTR fandom is simply part of the Chinese game developer’s foray into the overseas market. They have already started by making games with companies such as Marvel and Behaviour Interactive.
“With NetEase, we have an excellent partner for The Lord of the Rings: Rise to War bringing gamers the mobile experience in this rich universe they are looking for,” said David Haddad, President, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. “This adaptation will unlock new opportunities for players to explore the iconic settings and characters of Middle-earth while utilising their strategic skills in battle.”
The LOTR fandom sure has a lot to look forward to in the upcoming months, with Amazon’s Lord of the Rings Series and Daedalic Entertainment‘s Lord of the Rings: Gollum. While a release date has yet to be announced, fans can certainly expect more exciting game updates soon.
