Disney has found its Squid Game equivalent.

Moving' Becomes Most Viewed Disney+ Korean Original Series

The star-studded international spy thriller Moving is now the most watched Korean drama on Disney+ and Hulu — in the U.S and globally — within just seven days of its release. After debuting on 9 August, the juggernaut also rose to become the House of Mouse’s most popular series in any language, based on hours streamed, across Asia Pacific, including in Korea, Japan, Southeast Asia, Hong Kong, and Taiwan.

Putting things into perspective, the numbers indicate that viewers in Asia have already watched Moving more than other heavyweight titles on the streamer, such as The Mandalorian. It should be noted, though, that Disney declined to share more specifics, including the exact viewership data (via The Hollywood Reporter).

Adapted from a popular webtoon created by the influential Korean artist Kang Full, the show follows a group of super-powered South Korean spies as they work to protect their kids, who inherit their powers from the parents, from harm and exploitation at the hands of malicious government agencies. The big-budget production, totalling a whopping 65 billion won, features some of the biggest names in the Korean entertainment scene, including Ryu Seung-ryong (Miracle in Cell No. 7), Han Hyo-joo (20th Century Girl),and Zo In-sung (Smugglers).

Moving comes amid the surging global popularity of Korean dramas, and joins Disney’s other well-received Korean titles like the award-winning Big Bet, led by Choi Min-sik of the Oldboy fame, The Zone: Survival Mission, Soundtrack #1, and Snowdrop. The first 11 episodes are now available on Disney+ and Hulu, with two new episodes releasing every Wednesday. A three-part season finale is set to drop on 20 September, capping the series off with a 20-episode count.
