Mortal Kombat Reboot Casts Scorpion And Shang Tsung

While 2021 is still a ways to go, many of us are no doubt anticipating the release of the Mortal Kombat movie reboot, produced by James Wan and directed by Simon McQuoid.

The casting for the iconic fighters in the popular fighting game series of the same name is well underway, with quite the sizeable lineup (more below) comprising of a mix of fresh faces and familiar ones. This time, the fan-favourite yellow ninja Scorpion and the nefarious warlock of the Outworld Shang Tsung have been cast.

Playing as Scorpion will be Hiroyuki Sanada (Avengers: Endgame, The Wolverine), and alongside him as Shang Tsung will be Chin Han (The Dark Knight, Skyscraper).

The two have had their fair share of action, particularly with Sanada starring in a lot of samurai films such as 47 Ronin (hell, he even was a samurai in The Wolverine), so transitioning to a ninja like Scorpion wouldn’t be too far off.

The Singaporean Han, on the other hand, is more renowned for his range, as seen in his roles in The Dark Knight and Ghost in the Shell, and will likely do well as the villanous Shang Tsung.

The two will join the likes of Joe Taslim (Sub-Zero), Mehcad Brooks (Jax), Tadanobu Asano (Raiden), Ludi Lin (Liu Kang), Sisi Stringer (Mileena), Josh Lawson (Kano), Jessica McNamee (Sonya Blade), and Lewis Tan (unknown) as the ensemble cast of the Mortal Kombat movie reboot.

Mortal Kombat will have its theatrical release sometime in 2021, with production slated to begin at the end of this year.
